Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. Without treatment this can result in death.

How many people died from cancer in the world and the U.S.
●7.6 million died in the world in 2008
●12.7 were diagnosed in 2008
●571,950 died in 2011 in the U.S.
●That's about 1,500 per day in the U.S.
●24,900 deaths from Ohio
● 1.6 million were diagnosed in the U.S.
●65,060 diagnosed in Ohio

Tobacco use
● Smoking accounts for 30% of cancer deaths and 80% of lung cancer deaths
● Lung cancer is 23 times likely in male and13 times likely in female smokers than non-smokers
● Smoking causes 18 different types of cancer


How much money will cancer cost people in the United States?
●About 263.8 billion dollars
●102.8 billion for direct medical costs
●20.9 billion for indirect morbidity costs
●140.1 billion for indirect mortality costs
